CASTED courses are:

  • ‘High Yield’
  • ‘Hands-On’
  • ‘Practical’     and
  • ‘Immediately Practice Changing’

CASTED is a series of ‘hands-on’ orthopedic courses.  Each course combines case-based lectures with extensive ‘hands-on’ practice. The focus is on clinically relevant information – what will help you better manage your patients!

By the end of the course, you will have heard numerous clinical pearls. You will have improved your assessment and management skills. You will better identify ‘red flag’ patients. You will have increased confidence with important procedures. And you will change your practice on your next shift or clinic day!

Separate CASTED courses are available for different practice settings. CASTED courses have been designed specifically for emergency physicians, family physicians, nurses/NPs, medical technicians, physician assistants, and pediatric EDs.

CASTED: Emergency focuses on ED patients (adult and pediatric) with acute MSK injuries. Focus is on assessments, accurate diagnoses, reductions and immobilization, and knowing when to follow-up. It is available in both a 1-day version (9 hrs) and a 2-day version (16 hrs). It is also available as a 1-day course for specific groups – CASTED: Nurses (for ED RNs/NPs/RPNs), CASTED: Forces (for med techs and PAs in the military) and CASTED: Kids (for paediatric EDs).

CASTED: Primary Care is for family docs, nurses, and nurse practitioners who see patients with MSK complaints in an office/walk-in setting. Focus is on assessment, hands-on physical exam review, practice with joint injections and knowing who and when to refer.

CASTED: Fracture Clinic helps those who follow-up patients with minor fractures and acute MSK injuries. Focus in on management (which fractures are ‘safe’ to follow, when to x-ray, remove cast, return to sport, refer, etc.),  hands-on physical exam review, and practice with the application and removal of fiberglass casts.

CASTED is presented in conjunction with North York General Hospital, in Toronto, Canada. Over 150 CASTED courses have been presented the past 5 years. 99.5% of all registrants rated CASTED as either ‘outstanding’ (85.3%) or ‘above average’ (14.2%) compared to other Continuing Medical Education courses they have attended.
