CASTED: Forces is the ‘hands-on’ orthopedics course designed specifically for medical technicians and physician assistants in the military.
The full day course runs for over 8 hours and focuses on the initial assessment and management of the patient with an acute extremity injury.
Case-based lectures review orthopedic principles and highlight clinical pearls. Emphasis is on key aspects of the history, physical, investigations (x-rays) and management.
The extensive hands-on components include demonstrations of casting and splinting techniques, followed by hands-on practice under the close supervision of CASTED faculty.
CASTED: Forces provides a customized, ‘hands-on’ orthopedics experience that will increase the participants’ confidence and skills with acute orthopedic management. The course is available as a roadshow to travel to military bases.
This program meet the accreditation criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been accredited for up to 24 Mainpro+ credits. (3 credits/hour; 1-day course = 24)
