CASTED: Nurses

CASTED: Nurses is a ‘hands-on’ ED orthopedics course designed specifically for nurses who work in ‘fast-track’.

Based on the CASTED:Emergency course, CASTED: Nurses highlights ED orthopedic principles, common and commonly missed injuries, and helps improve registrants’ understanding of the ED orthopedic assessment. Important differences between adults and kids are noted.

Case-based lectures emphasize proper history and physical findings to identify ‘red flag’ patients. A comprehensive review of x-rays is covered throughout the day – who needs an x-ray, which views to order, an approach to interpret them, and the limitations of x-ray.

Extensive ‘hands-on’ demonstrations and practice allow for improved confidence with reductions and cast/splints. Understanding proper molding and positioning techniques will be emphasized.

At the end of the course, registrants will have significantly improved their MSK assessment and treatment skills; both knowing what to look for and how to manage and follow-up the wide spectrum of injuries seen in a busy ED.

CASTED: Nurses is available as a roadshow and scheduled on request. CASTED: Nurses courses can be 1-, 2- or 3-days, and on-line, in-person, or a hybrid (cases on-line plus hands-on in-person). Please contact us for further details.
