CASTED: Primary Care is the ‘hands-on’ orthopedics course designed specifically for family physicians.
You will learn:
- keys to an efficient orthopedic history
- ‘high yield’ physical exam tips, including a ‘hands-on’ exam review
- MSK management principles
- tips to identify ‘red flag’ patients
- indications for further investigations and referral
- how to perform various joint injections, including ‘hands-on’ practice with models
- practical, office-based immobilization options
CASTED: Primary Care combines 2-days of practical, case-based lectures with a separate 3rd day of ‘hands-on’ stations to review orthopedic principles and management in the context of a family doctor’s office.
Days 1 is on-line and synchronous, with post-course access to the recordings. Then, Day 2 is online and asynchronous (watch on your schedule).Covered are upper Extremity and neck, as well as lower extremity and back. Review cases, an efficient approach, and ‘red flags’ to be aware of.
Day 3 is in-person and serves a reminder of the principles, and hands-on with joint injections, physical exam review and practice. Plus, you get to refine points learned from the earlier sessions.
CASTED: Primary Care limits the number of registrants to ensure close supervision and interaction. At the end of the course, you will have a better understanding of primary care MSK assessment, investigation, diagnosis, treatment and referral.
